How to Restrict File Sharing Right now, I am using windows XP professional as my primary operating system. Since my college got the LAN connection, we are able to share anything in our workgroup.Since i am the one downloading a lot of tv series(like Prison Break, Heroes, Smallville ), movies and anime, I have to share it after downloading because a lot people there likewatching anime and tv series.
By sharing a lot of stuff in the network, my computer become slower.It makes feel uncomfortable especially during playing game.My computer become a bit lag because too many accessing my network that time. Then I've decided to give access to my computer only to certain. So,how can I do that in windows XP.
After searching around, here's the solution, "Applying Password on Shared Folders".
Quick Tips:-
1) Go to Control Panel > Administrative tools
2) Then Computer Management
3) On the left column, you will see Local Users and Groups
4) Double click it
5) Click on users now...Right click on Guest.
6) Click on Set Password Option from menu.
7) Enter your password.
8) Click OK...done!
Now you have successfully implement password on your share folder.So, if someone want to access your share folder, he/she must know the password,if not the share folder cannot be accessed. Give the password that you've created only to certain people that you want them to access your network.

How To Fix A Computer Crash

If you run a pc operating system, you will need to know how to fix a computer crash. And trust me, not that I have anything against pc?s, because it what I use, but over 95% of the world uses it. And inevitably, you will crash your computer. So, we need to know how to fix it.
You should be fully aware that your computer will crash. This means when you are working on it, you should always ensure you are saving your work as you go. If you don?t really plan on saving the work, just temporarily, then it really does not matter what you call the file. Just don?t forget the name. This ensures you will still have your work if your computer crashes.
Then it happens: automatic restart, blue screen, of just locks up. All of these are problems with a computer crash. And luckily, you were saving your data all along, so you still have it. But how do we fix the crashed computer?
First, try to reboot. If it reboots fine, then you have a problem in your registry somewhere. Registry files tell the computer what to do, and if these are conflicting, or corrupt, then the computer does not know what to do. It panics, and crashes. You need to get these files fixed. Find a registry software fix and scan your computer. It will tell you if you have any errors. If you do, let the software fix them. Once fixed, your computer is good to go. I would also recommend running this software weekly, as a computer maintenance item.
If you can not reboot, reboot in safe mode. This will allow the computer to start up without all of the bells and whistles. Then you can find a registry cleaner and fix the problems.
Basically, I believe most computer crashes occur due to a problem in the computer?s registry files. This is the first place I look, and run my software to fix them. And keeping the registry files fixed will help prevent you from asking how to fix a computer crash.

Backup Registry Before Too Late
All Windows stores its configuration information in a database called the registry. The registry is the central storage for all computer configuration data.
Although the registry appears to be in one file, it is actually placed on your computer in several files. Depending on your system configuration, registry files can be found in any of the following locations:
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\ on Windows 2000, XP.
C:\Windows\System32\Config\ on Windows 2000, XP.
C:\Windows\ on Windows 95, 98, ME.
C:\Windows\Profiles\ on Windows 95, 98, ME.
How To Back Up Windows Registry ?
------------------------------------
In windows NT, 2000 and XP not possible to back up registry files while the operating system is running. Registry files remain fully locked all the time while Windows is running, But hereYou can use an integrated Windows XP's System Restore feature for registry backup.
But using registry editor (regedit.exe) you can to export partial or complete copies of the registry, while the Windows is up, and the exported files can then be backed up with any other traditional file backup utility. You can follow these simple steps to back up the whole registry or any particular registry subkey:

Click Start button and then type Regedit in Run option.

Locate and then click the root subkey that contains all the child subkeys and values that you want to back up.

On the File menu, click Export.

In the Save box, you can select the location where you want to save the Registration Entries (.reg) file, type a file name in the File name box, and then click Save.
The exported registry file is about 10-50 MB in size on a typical Windows NT/2000/XP installation.

Because without backup yon can lose your data any time due to any virus, power failure and hard disk problem. This has happened to many people. In extreme cases, it has put companies out of business. Tweak Your Xp - Fast Shutdown
I'm a bit busy lately.Don't have much time to post.Finally I have free time.And I want to share a bit on how you can Shutdown your computer faster than before.
By altering a few registry settings, you can decrease the amount of time taken for Windows to shut down. To do this, first open up the registry editor and navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\
Once there, find the value HungAppTimeout and make sure it is set to 5000 (that's the default). Now, in the same folder, look for the value WaitToKillAppTimeout. Set this to 4000 (the default is 20000).
Lastly, navigate to the folder
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\
and change the value WaitToKillServiceTimeout to 4000 as well. Another thing that helps speeding up shutting down is going to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and then setting the NVidia Driver Help service to Manual.

Easy Steps to Speed Up Your Computer - Without Upgrading
A lot of people will complaint when their computer getting slower. They thought that the performance has decreased because their computer getting older. So, they feel they need a newer, faster model. That is actually not necessary. Follow this simple guide and your computer should run just as fast as the day you brought it home –
1)Clean Out Your Temporary Internet Files and Cookies
To clean out your temporary internet files and cookies go to:
- Start / Control Panel
- Click on the 'Internet Options' icon
- click the 'Delete Cookies' button and then click 'ok'
- Now click on the 'Delete Files' button. Put a check mark in the 'delete all offline content' box and click 'ok'
- You can also clear your history if you want.
2)Defrag Your Hard Drive
When you defrag your hard drive all your file segments are put back together otherwise known as 'made contiguous'. This makes accessing the file alot faster, thus improving performance.
To Defrag your Hard Drive go to:
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Disk Defragmenter
Now click on the 'Defragment' button and let the program do it's work. Often times the defrag process can take several hours so it is a good idea to do this at a time when you don't need your computer.
Or you can also use software like Diskeeper to defrag your hard disk.
So far, Diskeeper doing a great job for me. You guys should try.Recommended.
3)Run Anti-Spyware Programs
Your computer might be slow because of spyware or adware, especially for those who surf the internet everyday. So, by running a good Anti-spyware program to remove these is a always a good idea to increase your system performance. My personal anti-spyware favorites are AVG anti-spyware, Spysweeper & Zone Alarm Pro.

4)Optimize/Fix Windows Registry
Likewise, the Windows registry can become cluttered with a mess of broken or fragmented entries that can also slow Windows down. Bogus entries that point to non-existent or invalid files and resources represent a common example of useless, broken registry entries.
Good software for fixing/optimizing registry is like RegistryFix, WinASO registry optimizer and many more. Use Google search engine to find what is the most suitable software for you. Google is always the smarter choice.

Xp tweak - Startup Faster
In order to speed up your startup, there are 2 ways :-
1) Through MsConfig configuration
- Open Start > Run, type in 'msconfig'.
- Look for 'Startup tab' and click it. You will see a screen similar to the one below:
-This tab will show all programs that will be started when Windows boot up. Now, uncheck some of the program that you think not important to be load during startup.(Like YM, MSN, winamp..)
-Your Windows Xp should now startup faster because it will take less resources by not running these programs in the background.
2) Through 'Services.msc'
- Open Start > Run, type in 'services.msc'.
-Now you should see a similar screen like this :
-This window show you more detailed processes that are startign up with windows.
-"Automatic' means this program start automatically on booting.
-So, its up to you to choose which programs/services are 'Automatic' or you can change its properties to 'Manual' or 'Disabled'.
